Thousands of people flocked to Toledo Express Airport to see a variety of acts including Kevin Coleman, Bill Stein, Redline Airshows, a P-51 Quicksilver, Smoke and Thunder Jet Shows, Team Toledo’s 180th Fighter Wing and the United States Air Force Thunderbirds.

U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds roar into Toledo ahead of air show

The skies roared Wednesday afternoon as the United States Air Force Thunderbirds arrived in Toledo for the Toledo Air Show set for May 10 and May 11.
The Thunderbirds are just one of several performers during the upcoming airshow at the Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport.
Major Tyler Clark, who is also known as Slasher, is the Slot Pilot for the Thunderbirds and flies in Spot #4 while also flying Jet #4.
Maj. Clark’s inspiration for joining an elite group of pilots first began years ago.

Toledo Zoo’s aquarium celebrates 10th anniversary

The Toledo Zoo’s aquarium is celebrating its 10-year grand reopening anniversary in 2025, along with the zoo itself celebrating its 125th anniversary.
The zoo’s aquarium is one of five zoo buildings built by the Works Progress Administration (WPA). The WPA was established in 1939 to provide jobs to “unemployed workers on public projects sponsored by federal, state or local agencies,” according to the National Archives.

Lindsey Stirling charmed her Sterling Heights audience Tuesday evening with a performance that packed a punch. Stirling’s “Duality” tour stopped at Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre on Aug. 20 and proved to be a delight.

Northern lights visible across northwest Ohio Friday

The aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, were visible across several parts of the world Friday, May 10, including in northwest Ohio.
The aurora became visible due to a severe geomagnetic storm Friday evening, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Orchid Show returns to Toledo Zoo featuring 1,800 blooms

The Toledo Zoo is blooming with dozens of orchids as it hosts the annual Orchid Show this month, featuring more than 1,800 orchids, offering vibrant colors, scents and backstories of rare orchids world-wide.
“It’s a demonstration of biodiversity of orchids from around the world,” said Ryan Walsh, the Toledo Zoo director of plant conservation. “It showcases a really cool plant family that has so much diversity and gets people a little more excited about plants.”

The City of Perrysburg and Downtown Perrysburg, Inc. have put ice carvings on display.
Thirty-nine ice carvings were placed around the Downtown Perrysburg area Sunday by Ice Creations. On Monday, live ice carving demonstrations took place and were available for visitors to enjoy.
The carvings were originally supposed to be viewable during the city’s Winterfest on Saturday, however, due to inclement weather, the event was canceled.
Carvings remain on display.
